Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
Memphis Linux does not track you. This website has no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party trackers, and it sets no cookies at all for visitors. This page explains the few things we do collect, and why.
1. Who we are
Memphis Linux is operated by Khwarizm Consulting, 9 Meret Basha Street, Tahrir Square, Kasr El Nil, Cairo 11512, Egypt. We are the data controller for information collected through memphislinux.com.
For anything in this policy, write to privacy@memphislinux.com.
2. The short version
- We run no analytics on this website — no Google Analytics, no alternative, nothing counting your visit.
- We set no cookies for visitors. See the Cookie Policy.
- We collect personal data only when you send it to us — through a form on the site.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data, and we run no advertising.
- We do not build profiles, and we do not track you across other websites.
3. What we collect on this website
3.1 When you contact us or sign up
If you send us a message or sign up for release news, we collect only what the form asks for on screen — typically your name and email address, and for a business enquiry your company and anything else you choose to tell us. Nothing is gathered in the background alongside it.
What you send is kept only for as long as we need it to deal with your message, and nobody outside Memphis Linux and Khwarizm Consulting reads it.
We use this information to reply to you, and — if you asked for it — to send you release news. Nothing else. We will not add you to a mailing list because you sent us a support question.
3.2 Server logs
Like every web server, ours records requests: the IP address, the page requested, the time, and the browser’s user-agent string. These logs exist so the site can be kept running and secure. They are not used to build any picture of you, and they are not combined with anything from the forms.
4. What we do not collect
- No analytics or measurement of any kind.
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No tracking pixels, beacons, fingerprinting, or session recording.
- No cross-site tracking, and no data bought from or shared with data brokers.
- No profiling, and no automated decision-making.
- No special category data. Please do not send us any.
5. Cookies
This website sets no cookies for visitors. The only cookies it can set are the ones WordPress needs to keep a member of our own staff signed in to the admin area, and you will never receive those by reading the site.
Because nothing non-essential is stored on your device, there is no cookie banner and nothing to consent to. The Cookie Policy sets this out in full.
6. Third parties
We keep these to a minimum, and we would rather have none. As of this update there are three, and none of them receives your name or your email address:
- Our web host stores the site and its database, and keeps the server logs described above.
- Google Fonts — the site’s typeface is currently served from Google’s font servers, which means your IP address reaches Google when a page loads. Google Fonts sets no cookies. We are moving these files onto our own server, after which nothing on this site will contact Google.
- DigitalOcean hosts the download files. If you download an ISO or a signature file, DigitalOcean sees your IP address as it serves it.
We use no third-party analytics, no CDN in front of the pages themselves, no embedded videos, no social media widgets, no live chat, and no comment system. Links to our social media accounts are ordinary links: nothing is sent anywhere until you click one.
7. How long we keep things
- Enquiries and contact form submissions — up to 24 months after our last exchange with you, then deleted.
- Newsletter and early-access signups — until you unsubscribe, after which your address is removed.
- Server logs — kept for a short period by our host for security and troubleshooting, then rotated out.
You can ask us to delete your data sooner, and we will.
8. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it, and we will do that. Email privacy@memphislinux.com and we will reply within 30 days.
8.1 If you are in the EU or UK
Under the GDPR you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. Our lawful bases are narrow: consent for the newsletter and early-access list, and legitimate interest in replying to you for anything you send through a contact form. We do not rely on consent for anything else, because we do not do anything else with your data.
Please note that Khwarizm Consulting is established in Egypt, so replying to you involves your message being read outside the EEA. If you would rather not send personal details by form, write to us and we will work out another way.
You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.
8.2 If you are in California
We do not sell or share personal information, and we have not done so in the preceding twelve months. We do not offer financial incentives for data. The access and deletion rights described above apply to you.
9. Children
This website is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. Memphis Linux is often installed on family machines, so if you believe a child has sent us something, write to parents@memphislinux.com and we will delete it.
10. The operating system
This policy covers the website. The operating system is separate, and the principle is the same one: Memphis Linux contains no telemetry. It does not phone home, it does not report your usage, and it does not send us diagnostics.
10.1 Safer Internet (Neithotep, optional)
If you switch on the “Safer Internet” feature in Neithotep Home Edition, the system uses OpenDNS to filter dangerous websites at the network level. This is off unless you enable it, and it is a direct relationship between your network and OpenDNS — nothing is routed through us and we receive nothing from it. Their terms are at opendns.com/consumer-terms.
10.2 Updates
Downloading updates and packages contacts the relevant software repositories, exactly as on any Linux distribution. Those requests go to the repositories, not to us.
11. How we protect your data
- The website is served over HTTPS.
- Access to the site and to form submissions is limited to people who need it.
- We hold as little as possible, which is the most reliable protection there is.
If a breach ever affects your data, we will tell you what happened, what it means for you, and what we are doing about it, without waiting to be asked.
12. Changes to this policy
When this policy changes we update the date at the top. Because the site collects so little, we expect changes to be rare — and if we ever start collecting something new, we will say so plainly rather than quietly widening a paragraph.
